Decmil was awarded a design and construct contract for new infrastructure to facilitate transportation of ore from BHP Billiton’s new pit at mining area C to the crushing facility. The purpose of the works was to enable the use of the existing road for light vehicle traffic with heavy SME overpass.
The works comprise the design and construction of the Overpass Tunnel including arches, reinforced earth wing walls, crown beams, footings and safety windrows.
Further to this, a dust suppression system was also required to be installed in the area as part of the development of the P1E new pit. This includes the supply and construction of a system comprising a standpipe, a water storage tank, pumps and approximately 2.1km long pipeline connecting the water storage tank to an existing turkey’s nest located southeast of the standpipe area.
