Decmil was awarded the Kororoit Creek Road Duplication Project by VicRoads.

The scope of works included:

  • Duplication of road between Millers Road and Grieve Parade
  • Bridge over rail
  • New bridge over Kororoit Creek and rehabilitation of existing bridge.

The original concept design by VicRoads included extensive reinforced earth walls and large fills over existing Qenos and Shell chemical pipelines. Decmil (previously Cut & Fill) proposed and alternative design which extended the bridge to eliminate any interface with the services and also eliminate the reinforced earth walls.

The final design allowed for the construction of a future rail track on either side of the existing tracks.

The existing Kororoit Creek Road was a single lane in each direction. The new design provided a two-lane dual carriageway including bike lane provision. The works were progressively constructed in stages to ensure that the existing traffic conditions and adjacent commercial properties were not affected during the duplication works.

The project was completed on time and all local businesses and passing traffic were advised of any impeding traffic management changes through the use of letter drops, VicRoads did not receive any complaints in the two years the project was under construction.
