The expansion of the PSP network was a key action of the Western Australian Bicycle Network Plan, delivered as part of State-wide major transport infrastructure projects.

The project included:

  • Construction of a new PSP within the City of Stirling between Civic Place and Erindale Rd (Length 2.46km)
  • The construction of a new PSP within the City of Stirling between Erindale Road and Reid Highway (Length 1.23km)
  • Upgrade of Karrinyup Road and Cedric Street intersection
  • Construction of a new Underpass under Karrinyup Road. The underpass was constructed in two stages to maintain traffic in both directions on Karrinyup Road during construction. This 80 metre underpass improves safety for the public, with pedestrians and cyclists no longer required to interact with traffic at the busy location.

The project also saw an upgrade to the Erindale Road underpass, with a new artwork installation painted by students from Lake Gwelup Primary School. With a large number of trees along the project, environmental management of this project was key, and the project’s design was carefully refined to minimise clearing. Clearing was carried out within the road reserve so as not to impact the City of Stirling parkland, and an extensive revegetation and landscaping plan, which included native trees and ground cover, was implemented.
