Taryn is currently a Site Administrator for Decmil, working on the Albany Ring Road project in Albany, Western Australia.
I like the fact that I can watch the project take shape and that I am part of a project that is contributing to the Albany region in such a positive way.
Taryn joined Decmil in January 2021 as the Site Administrator for the Albany Ring Road project. She is based on site in Albany, Western Australia. Prior to joining Decmil, Taryn worked as the Manager/Coordinator at the Albany Senior Citizen Centre for Meals on Wheel, Albany Incorporated for 9 years.
Taryn is originally from Victoria, where she grew up. She qualified in Equine Business Management at Marcus Oldham College in Geelong Victoria. Taryn went on to work on various horse stud farms regionally. 14 years ago, Taryn moved with her family to Albany from Narembeen, a Western Australian town in the Wheatbelt region of WA, 286km east of Perth.
The Albany Ring Road project provided Taryn with an opportunity to work within the construction industry. Taryn is enjoying her role and says that she enjoys being busy and likes the variety of the job.
Taryn says, “You never know what is coming up each day. It is very dynamic, and I am never bored. I enjoy learning new things and am enjoying learning about the construction industry. I like the fact that I can watch the project take shape and that I am part of a project that is contributing to the Albany region in such a positive way.”
Taryn mentions that her basic skills have assisted her in her role. These skills include paying attention to detail, ensuring proper naming conventions of documents and always remaining open minded and flexible. Taryn says that the job requires flexibility as one day you could be booking a flight and the next day you could be making arrangements due to an unexpected vehicle breakdown.
Taryn says that being part of a team is the best part of the job.
Taryn says, “We have a great bunch of people here, and that makes it enjoyable to come to work every day. Our great teamwork demonstrates what we have been able to achieve in the project over the past 12 months. As a site administrator, my job is to support the team to make sure that the team can do their jobs. As a site administrator I deal with everyone – from the CEO visiting the project site right through to our client. My motto is to treat everybody equally, and to offer everyone the same level of courtesy and service and respect as everyone else.”
