The Area C Expansion formed part of BHP Billiton’s Rapid Growth Project 3 and involved increasing the nominal production of Area C from 23 to 42 Mega tonnes per annum.

The contract awarded to Decmil involved establishing construction facilities at Area C for future expansion projects including construction of minor earthworks, installation of offices and other construction facilities. Water, power, fire services, mechanical and communications to these facilities were also established as part of the project.

Decmil was recognised by BHP Billiton and Mine and Port Developments Joint Venture for their valuable contribution to safety, environmental and construction performance in the successful installation of all site preparation buildings and services. The works were undertaken without incident which is a credit to the whole team working to achieve incident and injury free outcomes.
