The construction of the Hervey Bay Airport Terminal (and runway upgrade) was cited by Hervey Bay City Council as one of the most important capital infrastructure projects the City has ever undertaken.
Three times larger than the previous structure, the terminal building included improved facilities such as check-in counters, restaurant, bar, baggage carousel, visitor information kiosk, and information desks.
Building construction works were completed two months ahead of schedule despite having to work around the airport’s ongoing daily operations. The terminal building became fully operational in time for the first large jet landing, despite works being completed the wettest quarter recorded. Close consultation with stakeholders throughout the works was key to the project’s success.
By incorporating value engineering, as well as significant local experience and knowledge, the project provided significant cost savings to the client. The project won the QLD Tourism and Hospitality Facilities Award for Construction Excellence $5,000,000 – $20,000,000.
