Decmil was awarded the Design & Construct contract to deliver HV and LV Facilities at Mesa J at Robe Valley.
Robe Valley is an open-pit iron ore mine located in the Robe valley area within the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The Robe Valley is located approximately 140 kilometres southwest of Karratha in the Pilbara region of WA.
The Robe Valley iron ore mine expansion, also known as the Robe Valley Sustaining Project, involves the development of three open pits on three new deposits namely Mesa B, Mesa C, and Mesa H, as well as the construction of supporting infrastructure for continued operations at Mesa A and Mesa J.
Scope of Work
The Project included the detail design of the Mesa J HV and LV facilities, construction of a new laydown area, construction of the new Mesa J HV wash facility including process water treatment and oily water separation facilities and Site services.
Works also included deconstruction of the existing HV wash facility at Mesa J, including removal of all infrastructure and services, and construction of HV park-up bays and deconstruction of the exiting bulk lube storage facility.
Works included construction of the new Mesa J three bay mobile equipment maintenance (MEM) workshop and the new Mesa J bulk lube storage facility including product reticulation and new lube reel racks to new and existing workshop facilities and Site services.
Key Project Challenges
This Project required careful management of Safety in Design and staging requirements as the New NPI Facilities were built around live Rio Tinto Operations NPI facilities.
