The Peak Downs mine is one of nine metallurgical coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin. Peak Downs is an open-pit coal mine that produces high-quality hard coking coal and is one of Australia’s biggest coal mines by recoverable coal reserves. It’s located 31 kilometres south east of Moranbah in Queensland’s Bowen Basin on the traditional lands of the Barada Barna people.

Operating at Peak Downs since 2011 under a civil mine services, rehabilitation and environmental management contract, we have maintained a significant safety record, with over three years free from Lost Time Injuries (LTI).

Civil works performed include construction and maintenance of a safe and efficient light vehicle road network across the site including dragline and drill bench preparation. This includes managing all aspects of infrastructure construction to support efficient mining operations, managing the drainage network and fire break construction and high-risk bunding to ensure compliance with circuit safety standards. Effective measures are undertaken to minimise dust across the site.

We are also currently in the process of rehabilitating mining landforms and providing tailings dam improvement, remediating the area at the Three South Tailings Dam.

Decmil also provides essential site engineering services and geotechnical works. This includes designing and constructing infrastructure works, pontoon walkways for safe access to pumps on multiple dams and boat ramps for secure pump installation access.
