The Case 1 separator project was Decmil’s first project with QGC. From an initial contract of 10 wells installed over a 5 month period, Decmil quickly grew its footprint on the project to 20 wells in Case 2 and 134 wells in Case 3.

As part of the initial contract for separator refurbishment and installation, the 3 initial projects involved workshop modification of vertical separators, on skid piping fabrication and interconnecting pipework between the wellhead, separator and flares. Works also included onsite mechanical installation, electrical installation of instruments within the workshop and site and procurement of all items excluding the vertical separator.

Design changes were made in both Case 2 and Case 3 which saw Decmil install their first production wells. This required the team to pipe the separators into Gas and Water risers to be fed to domestic markets and water treatment facilities.

Major discrepancies were recognised in specifications during the initial BG Group aquisition of QGC. To overcome this, the project team developed all engineering isometric drawings for wellhead separator packages on Case 1 and 2, and the majority of spooling on Case 3 scopes of work.

This two-way communication at design phase allowed the project team to make necessary changes to reduce site work and welding and to allow for more efficient installation.
