Decmil was awarded a contract by Samsung C&T for various works at the train load out (TLO), desanding and tailings facilities at the Roy Hill Iron Ore Mine. The project involved a number of challenges including multiple runs of pipework between process equipment and instrumentation works within a limited real estate.

The scope of works includes:

Underground Services Works:

  • Excavation and trenching works for the construction of common services including fire water, potable water, air, optic fibre, HV power between mine facility and bulk fuel tanks

TLO Facility:

  • Lifting of main structure, stair tower, surge bin module and a control room
  • Assembly of the chute and guillotine gate frame
  • Installation of load cells and a hydraulic power unit
  • Associated electrical works

Desanding Facility:

  • Installation of classification and filtration facilities to classify and filter slurry fines via de-slime cyclones, up current classifiers, spirals and belt filters
  • Electrical and Instrumentation works for all major process equipment

Tailings Booster Pump Station:

  • Installation of 9 Large Slurry pumps and large bore pipework
  • Small bore pipework to connect gland water, water chillers and booster pump skids
  • Installation of hydraulic power packs installation to connect to the XV Valves on the pipework
  • All electrical works and installation of a switch room and substation to connect power and communications to the pumps and associated facilities
  • A 4km long common services trench to connect HV power and communications from the substation and switch room to the ROM 1 pad
