This project involved bulk earthworks, civil works, construction of new accommodation units and accompanying facilities at two sites in northern Western Australia.
The works were split into three separable portions:
- Separable Portion 1: Tom Price Construction Village – 87 rooms with central facilities and all associated earthworks
- Separable Portion 2: Tom Price Construction Village – additional 273 rooms
- Separable Portion 3: Karijini Lodge – Extension to 199 rooms and facilities
There was major site preparation works at both sites, such as clearing, grubbing, importation of 60,000 cubic metres of fill from borrow pits, excavation of 30,000 cubic metres of fill, of which 10,000 cubic metres was rock. Roads were constructed to Main Roads WA standards with over 12,000 square metres of concrete asphalt being supplied and laid.
Associated service works were also undertaken, including permanent site reticulated power, hydraulics and communications, which were connected to all 560 units. Various facilities were installed at both sites, including wet and dry messes (over a 40 unit modularisation), tennis courts, basketball courts and swimming pools.
The project was completed under a very strict time schedule due to the severe lack of accommodation facilities in Tom Price and all project milestones were achieved to the full satisfaction of the client.
