Decmil was awarded a contract for the design, procurement and construction of a 1,056 person temporary accommodation facility (Fly Camp) for the Wheatstone LNG Project.
The project site was located at Ashburton North, 12 kilometers west of the town of Onslow on the Pilbara coast of Western Australia. The safety and enjoyment of the Project workforce was a prime consideration in the design and layout of the Fly Camp and facilities. The office facilities were designed as self-contained mobile units built to withstand blast overpressure and cyclone wind requirements.
The scope of works included:
- En-suited accommodation units, kitchen and dining facilities
- Medical facility and guard house
- Wet mess and dry recreation facilities
- Water treatment plant
- Sewage treatment plant
- Power generation
- Diesel fuel tanks
- Fire protection/detection
- Operations office.
An innovative design was developed to enable the camp to function as a standalone shelter with self-contained back-up generator. Drainage design was optimised to control surface water runoff. Local participation was achieved through the use of local suppliers and subcontractors, and developing and maintaining good relations with all stakeholders and Traditional Owners.
